Task 9: time, weather and possession.



Task 9.
Planning a vacation.
1.      What’s the weather like at the beach? R= sunny and warm.
2.      What’s the weather like in the mountains? R= cold and snowy.
3.      What’s the weather like at the lake? R= rainy.

1.      When do the leaves change colors in Chicago? R= fall.
2.      When is it humid? R= summer.
3.      When do people plant gardens? R= spring.
4.      When do people prepare for winter? R= fall.
5.      When does it snow? R= winter.
Family relationships: family ties.
1.      My grandmother’s husband is my grandfather.
2.      My mother’s grandmother is my great grandmother.
3.      My brother’s sister is my sister too.
4.      My daughter’s son is my grandson.
5.      My aunt and uncle’s daughter is my cousin.
6.      My cousins’ father is my uncle.
7.      My wife’s mother is my mother- in- law.
8.      My daughter’s brother is my son.
9.      My brother’s daughter is my niece.
10.  My parents’ only child is me, of course.
Possessive pronouns and adjectives.
1.      These grammar books are different. Yours has 278 pages, but mine has only 275.
2.      We gave them our telephone number, and they gave us theirs.
3.      Junko has eaten her lunch already, but I’m saving mine until later.
4.      My pencil is broken. Can I borrow yours?
5.      This bird has broken its wing?

The mysterious Volkswagen.
Last week, we had a party at OUR house. Many people came, and there were lots of cars parked outside. All the end of the party, only three people were left: myself. Eric and Cathy. However, there were four cars. One of them was a Volkswagen. I didn’t remember seeing it before, so I asked whose it was. Eric said it wasn’t HIS car. HIS is a Chevrolet pickup.  When I asked Cathy if of course. Finally I called the police, and they came and examined it. They said it belonged to family on the next street. Someone stole it from THEIR street and left it on OURS.
Possessive pronouns and adjectives 3.
1.      Is this your suitcase? Is this suitcase yours?
2.      Are those his shoes? Are those shoes his?
3.      That was your plane. That plane was yours.
4.      Will this be my desk? Will this desk be mine?
5.      This was their house. This house was theirs.
6.      This will be your room. This will room be yours.
7.      These are my pens. These pens are mine.
8.      Is this our bus? Is this bus ours?
